Welcome to my part 1 of my Sky Airlines Trip Report!
My ride: CC-DBF
Introduction
Concepcion would be the last visit in Chile before visiting my last country for the year in South America, Brazil and I had a few options in mind which airline would fly me from Santiago to Sao Paulo. Of course to fly from Concepcion to Santiago, I had to fly on a domestic airline and Sky Airlines was the obvious choice. The options to fly from Santiago to the capital city of Brazil are Turkish Airlines, LATAM and Sky Airlines. After a few thoughts about it, I decided to save the trouble and fly with Sky Airlines on one ticket from CCP to GRU with a stopover at SCL airport. All I had to do is to transfer at SCL from terminal 1 to terminal 2 and the best thing about this itinerary is that my luggage was checked all the way to my final destination and considering Sky Airlines is a low-cost carrier, I am definitely happy about it.
So without further do, let me share with on another of Chile's low cost carrier, Sky Airlines!
About Sky Airlines
Sky Airlines is a Chilean based carrier, based in Santiago Chile was set up in 2001 started flights with a Boeing 737-200. Jurgen Paulmann was the founder of this airline and he worked hard to ensure the airline started domestic operation in December 2001 and the airline joined IATA 4 years later. This airline is currently the 2nd biggest airline in Chile, behind LATAM in terms of the number of aircraft and routes it operates. The airline currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neo and has plans to operate the A321XLR which the first to join the fleet in sometime in 2026 (original date is late 2025 but has been delayed) with a total of 10 aircraft that the airline will operate.

You can read up Simple Flying's version of this airline over here.
About Carriel Sur International Airport
This is a domestic airport located in Talcahuano, Greater Concepcion in the Bio Bio Region which is not far away from downtown. This terminal was opened in 2000 and replaced the original terminal building which began its history from 1968 onwards. With a single runway in use (02/20), the airport serves 3 airlines, Jetsmart, Sky Airlines and LATAM and Socidad Concesionaria Aeropuerto Carriel Sur S.A is the operator of this airport. Currently the airport only operates on domestic flights in Chile and may restart international flights in the near future.

Booking with the airline
This airline has both the mobile and website version and they worked flawlessly. For this flight itinerary, I was able to book directly with the airline.
However, the mobile app is not available for my region.
Checking in was a stress free experience. As I had purchased the fare which includes the seat selection and luggage allowance, I had nothing to worry about. Do note: Web check-in is available from 72 hours before departure.
In the check-in review section, the website states what was included in my fare.
I was also able to check in for my next flight to Sao Paulo.
Before the flight, I was wondering whether do I need to do a separate check-in at Santiago since I was connecting to an international flight, do read on to find out.
On the day of departure
I stayed at a lovely apartment in the heart of the city and this is the view from the apartment.
The view of the street
One last look before I hopped onto my ride.
The airport car park.
I was able to obtained both boarding passes and was pleased to hear that my luggage was able to check in all the way to my final destination. Not bad for a low cost carrier!
There was certainly Christmas spirit at the airport.

The second level is where the security check is.
One last look at the landside.
After several minutes at the security checkpoint, I was at the airside.
This is the passport control but currently not in use as the flights out of this airport currently only operates domestic flights.
There are some restaurants at the airside.
This LATAM Airbus A320ceo was bound for Santiago in this dreadful weather.
Only at this section of the airport, it is not plane photography friendly.
Plenty of seating areas with airport WiFi available.
There are some shops to check out at this side of the terminal.
The flight information board
Pacific Club Lounge
Priority pass members, paying passengers, credit card holders and elite status holders of LATAM can use this lounge.
This terminal is not very big and it takes around 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other.
I did a check on Flightradar24 and CC-DBF gets the honour to fly me to Santiago!
The on time departure from Santiago means most likely my flight would depart on time.
My ride: CC-DBF
Most parts of the terminal allows plane photography and lucky for me, I was able to snap a few photos of this beauty.
This is one of the few A320neo operators that didn't opt for the racoon mask that covers the cockpit area.
I like the livery colours, it matches well in my opinion.
Time to board!
Sky 7 Veces is referring to the number of times it gets recognised by Skytrax for its good service.

My Flight Experience
Boarding was very much on time and even though this aircraft was relatively new, just a few months old, but it was quite hot and stuffy inside as the air condition was not turned on for whatever reason. The cabin crew on this flight seemed to have their mind wondering somewhere else, didn't find them friendly throughout the flight.
Anyway, once the aircraft pushed back and one of the engines got started, it was only then the cabin started cooling down with the air condition turned on. The usual PTU (Power Transfer Unit) sound went off a few times during the taxi and once the second engine was running, the cabin noise quiet down.
Announcement on this flight was only made in Spanish by both the cabin and flight crew and that is not good. At least check your passenger manifest to see if there is any foreigners on board. In fact there are a few with a couple from U.K sitting behind me with their recognisable accent.
The seat is comfortable but the legroom space is standard for this aircraft configuration. What is good about this cabin product is the availability of the USB type A charging port located on the seat back in front of each passenger, a convenient location in my opinion.
As this is a BOB (Buy on Board) service, the inflight menu is available at each seat in the literature holder so it's nice to know what is being offered. I didn't buy anytime as I enjoyed the short flight with some good view along the way to Santiago.
We landed ahead of schedule and I had plenty of time for the layover and all I need to do is to walk over to terminal 2 and go through immigration and security to get to the gate. So I did a timing check on how long it took me, it took me around 35 minutes from Terminal 1 airside to Terminal 2 airside including security and immigration. My recommendation is to choose a flight with a minimum connection time of at least 1 and a half hour to transfer from the domestic to the international flight (Terminal 1 to 2) at Santiago SCL Airport.
Welcome on board Sky Airlines A320neo!
This aircraft is configured in a 3-3 standard configuration with a total of 186 seats in this cabin. These seats have a seat width of 18 inches and only for the first 3 rows, headrest is available and have better legroom space than the others. For the emergency rows, they have the best legroom space and for the rest of the seats, the legroom space is around 29-30 inches. There is no Inflight Entertainment installed on this aircraft but individual USB-type A socket is available.

The first row of the ecnomy class seat
For this airline's A320neo configuration, only the first 3 rows have headrest installed.
This airline opted for the Airspace cabin which is larger than the standard cabin on the fleet are installed in the fleet and they look very familiar to me as the design comes from the Airbus A350.
These are the standard economy class seats.
The standard low cost carrier seats
Legroom space looks tight.
Except for the emergency row seats
That's a good amount of legroom space at the emergency rows.
I was reaching my seat, the seat besides the window with the shade up.
This is my seat for this flight.
Another look at the seat.
This Recaro slimline seats are popular with airlines.

Notice the charging ports?
Overview of the front cabin
I recommend the front 3 row seats as they are more comfortable.
More photos of the seat
The usb charging port is certainly nice to have especially on a low cost carrier.
The window view of the wing
This is the USB-type A Charging port and it charges between 5-15W.
The overhead panel consists of the individual reading lights, aircon vents and the call button for the flight attendent.
View from my seat
I was able to charge a bit of my phone during this short flight.
Overall I like the layout of the seat back of this Recaro seat.
Seat pitch is around 30 inches.
What's inside the literature holder?
Safety Card

Prices is not too bad
A small seat layout of the aircraft
This airline offers a good variety of snacks and beverages on board.
I was tempted to order one of these meals.
Window View Photos (Take Off to Landing)
Goodbye Concepcion!
We pushed back in this cloudy weather.
At this point, the weather was much better than an hour ago.
Our taxi ride to the runway took around less than 5 minutes.
We started rolling down the runway.
Most of the clouds have cleared and we lifted off for the clear blue skies ahead of us.
V1.... rotate
Our take off was powerful as we climbed to our assigned flight level.
A little bit of bumps here and there but nothing bad.
We had a few glimpse of the land and sea.
Before flying through a layer of clouds and not much scenery until we started our approach into Santiago.
Once we were out of the clouds, we were greeted by the mountainous terrain.
We flew past the SCL Airport as we had to make a U-turn and lined up for runway 17R.
Making a final turn.
At this point, we were on final approach as our pilots prepared our aircraft for landing.
Spoilers and flaps were deployed.
It was another nice arrival into Santiago.
A few seconds to go before touching down.
Once again, we arrived ahead of schedule.
Welcome back to Autero Merino Benitez International Airport!
We taxied past terminal 1 building.
Following the taxiway leading to our gate.
This would be my last look at this terminal.
We have reached our gate.
Thanks for the memories, SCL Terminal 1!
My flight summary
This time, I would be connecting to another flight with Sky Airlines.
To connect to the other terminal, just followed the signboard. First you need to head towards the arrival hall.
Once at the arrival hall, there will be signboards directing you to terminal 2.
Follow the sign at the exit doors for terminal 2.
The Holiday Inn is situated between both terminals.
There are walkways along the sides of the hotel's property.
It takes less than 10 minutes to reach the other terminal.
Almost there now.
You can also walk along the second level passageway to connect between both terminals.
I went up the second level to walk over to terminal 2.
Welcome to Terminal 2!
This would be my 2nd time departing from this terminal.
This is LATAM's check-in area
To be continued in my part 2

Overall Rating: 34/50

Conclusion
Althought the inflight service was average, the flight was enjoyable with good weather on route and the ability to charge my device was a big plus. Apart from Scoot, I haven't come across any airlines in other parts of the world would charge for using the USB charging port, that's ridiculous in my opinion.
The transfer from Terminal 1 to 2 at SCL airport was a stress free affair especially with about 2 hours or so ,I didn't feel any urgency to rush over. The immigration at the terminal 2 didn't take long to clear and by the time I reached the airside of terminal 2, I had about an hour or so left to hang around before the flight departure.
Was my next flight better? Stay tuned for the trip report. I will also cover an overall review of my flying experience with Sky Airlines.
Thanks for reading and have a great one!
