Hotel Review: Ibis Hotel Frankfurt Airport

Welcome to my hotel review on Ibis Frankfurt Airport Hotel!

Address: Langer Kornweg 9a-11 65451 Kelsterbach

Introduction

I decided to do a 2 nights layover at Frankfurt and since this was just a short stay, I thought I might choose a more comfortable one near the airport. For accommodation, I choose between Airbnb or Hotel depending on a few factors such as availability, duration of the stay and location. Since Frankfurt was just a layover, I decided to stay at a hotel, preferably near the airport. Usually for search of hotels, I use Booking.com and the website has been reliable. There are some that tells you to book directly with the hotel, yes you can do that but if you have a change of plans, you may need to seek a refund (depending on the condition of the booking) and that may be troublesome so usually I opted for the hotels that allow me to book and pay at the hotel so if I need to make any changes, I can do so without paying any penalties. Comparing the prices of the hotels near the airport, this was the best option for me. So without further ado, let's begin this hotel review.

About the hotel

This hotel has 132 air conditioned and non smoking rooms and was fully refurblished in November 2019. It is about 2.5 miles away from the Frankfurt Airport (10 minutes drive). There are buses that will take you to the nearest train station (S-Bahn) which connects you to the heart of the city in 20 minutes.

This hotel offers the following facilities:

- Daily Housekeeping
- Restaurant
- Coffee Shop
- Parking (Charging fees may apply)
- Cable/Satallite TV
- Shuttle bus to the airport/Airport to the hotel

Location of the hotel

Hotel Shuttle is complimentary if you take the bus from the airport to the hotel but for the other direction (hotel to the airport), you have to pay 4 Euros.

It is best to confirm the hotel regarding the shuttle bus timing.

The shuttle bus timing according to the website is:

Between 0500 to 1015 and 1630 to 2315

No shuttle service between 1015 to 1630.

The pick up point at the airport is at the airport terminal 1, arrival hall B exit 5.

Hotel's number @ +49 6107 9870

Check-in timing is from 1500 to 0000 (next day)

The entrance to the hotel

There was a bit of queue at the check-in desks but it didn't take long before my turn came.

The sitting area

There are tables with charging ports.

These photos bring back memories.

Good place to chill out while waiting for the shuttle bus.

The entrance into the hotel lobby

The ground level consists of the reception, coffee shop and restaurant.

There are also some brochures available if you are interested in touring the city.

Restaurant (Breakfast operates from 0600 to 1000 hours)

A buffet style for all you can eat and if you room rate does not include breakfast, it cost Euro $8.50 for Children and Euro S$17 for adults.

The variety was limited.

As breakfast was included, I had to give it a try.

You can create your own wafer!

Overall, I give Ibis kitchen's food a rating of 7/10

Standard Double room

Do note: Each person is charged a tourist tax of Euro $2 a day.

A small closet

The room is spacious and the bed is comfortable.

Toilet is in good condition

Bedside table

The view from the bedside

The room space is more than adequate for solo travellers.

The television size may be small for some.

The window view - nothing much to see!

I took a little stroll near the hotel and this is what I saw.

Quiet area with residential area and  airport companies such as catering are located nearby.

The Ibis hotel sign is clearly marked and you can't miss it.

This is the residental area.

There are also restuarants and a supermarket nearby.

With a temperature of 2 degrees, I didn't mind the walk at all.

Conclusion

This is a nice and pleasant hotel to layover and I was able to rest well for my long flight. In fact I have booked this hotel on my way back home. During my time at the hotel, I was able to get to the city with the bus shuttle taking me to the airport and from there I take the local train down to the city and it didn't take more than 40 minutes, not too bad. So that means you are still able to enjoy some sightseeing in the town area and return to the hotel. One advantage of doing this is you don't have to worry about spending some time to get to the airport with the expensive taxi fare or having to deal with the crowded trains.

Since my booking had included breakfast, I had a chance to sample the food and the quality was not bad, only complaint is the lack of variety. For food options especially after breakfast hours, there are restaurants and cafes nearby but I didn't get to explore any of them, only the supermarket which is located just a few minutes from the hotel. Maybe on the next trip to this hotel, I would check out some of the eateries nearby.
